08 Apr GRANADA HAS QUALIFIED FOR THE FINAL TO BECOME THE EUROPEAN CAPITAL OF CULTURE IN 2031.

On Friday 13 March, Tanja Mlaker, chair of the Expert Committee, alongside Niko Isaris, deputy director of the European Commission Representation in Spain, and Carmen Páez, undersecretary at the Ministry of Culture, announced that Granada had reached the final in the race to become European Capital of Culture in 2031.

Granada remains in the running alongside Cáceres, Oviedo and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, which the experts deemed to be the strongest candidates with the greatest potential. Burgos, Jerez de la Frontera, Palma, Toledo and Potries have been eliminated from the competition. The Expert Committee comprised ten members, two appointed by the Ministry of Culture and the other eight by various european institutions.

Granada, Cáceres, Oviedo and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria must continue their work and complete the Bid Book, which will set out their project in line with the experts’ recommendations. The final decision will be made in December, and Granada will continue to fight to achieve this goal.
