27 May GRANADA WILL HOST THE 2030 EUROPEAN UNIVERSITY SPORTS ASSOCIATIONS GAMES (EUSA GAMES)
Granada will host the 2030 European University Games (EUSA Games), as decided by the EUSA executive committee in a meeting held in Aveiro, Portugal.
The committee decided to grant the organization of the event to the city of Granada after a brief presentation and defence of each of the three candidacies – Granada, Manisa in Turkey, and Split in Croatia -.
This demonstrates that both the city and the institution are perfectly capable of organizing international events with great logistics and organization. The EUSA Games will be organized by the University of Granada, the Granada City Council, and the Provincial Council, with the support of the Andalusian Regional Government and the Higher Sports Council.
This marks a milestone for Granada, as it will be the first time the city hosts this prestigious event. It is important to note that the celebration of the Games in 2030 coincides with Granada’s 500th anniversary, adding an additional layer of significance to the occasion. The games will begin on July 14, 2030, just one year before the commemoration of the fifth centenary of UGR, officially established on July 14, 1531.
For Spain, this opportunity marks the second time hosting the Games, which take place every two years, following the inaugural edition held in Cordoba in 2012. Additionally, it will be an opportunity to showcase Granada’s long history in academic, social, cultural, and sporting realms to the entire European university and sports community.
During these days, the city will welcome thousands of visitors related to university sports, including athletes, technical teams, family members, and institutional representatives. This event will showcase the city and university’s capacity in terms of sports infrastructure to the world while also promoting tourism, and generating positive economic impacts for both the city and its province.
