04 Feb LA MADRAZA: ANDALUSIAN CULTURAL PROPOSAL

La Madraza, the Centre for Contemporary Culture of the University of Granada, is the main reference for the UGR’s cultural programming, offering activities that encompass the arts, music, film, social sciences, humanities, experimental sciences, environmental sciences, and technology. It is in a historic 14th-century building, originally founded as a higher education centre during the Nasrid period and is now situated in the heart of Granada’s historic centre.

Recently, it was recognized in the ranking of the best cultural proposals in Andalusia, according to the 2024 Culture Observatory of the Fundación Contemporánea. In its first appearance in the ranking, the institution placed 19th regionally and is the only Andalusian university included. This ranking, which evaluates over 700 cultural proposals across Spain, highlights the quality and constant renewal of its offerings, with the participation of over 1,000 cultural sector professionals.

In addition to its activities at the main venue, the centre extends its programming to other spaces in the city, such as the Casa de Porras and the Palacio del Almirante in the Albaicín, addressing topics like identity, craftsmanship, and the neighbourhood from a contemporary perspective.
