16 Dec The UGR Promotes jUGaR

The University of Granada has launched — for the second year in a row — the jUGaR project, an educational and intergenerational initiative that brings board games into classrooms with the aim of fostering learning, coexistence, and connections between generations.

Throughout this year, jUGaR has held training workshops at Luis Rosales and Alcazaba primary schools, aimed at fourth-grade pupils and led by mixed teams made up of university students and older adults from the UGR’s Permanent Open Education Programme. These sessions have been characterised by a playful and participatory atmosphere and have received very positive feedback, highlighting the strong educational value of board games as a learning tool.

The project places special emphasis on the educational potential of board games, which help develop executive functions, critical thinking, social skills, and shared values. In addition, collaboration between younger and older participants has created meaningful spaces for exchange, where experiences, knowledge, and different ways of playing are shared.

This innovative approach makes jUGaR a proposal that goes beyond simple entertainment, offering a creative educational methodology that promotes key competencies and strengthens intergenerational cohesion in real learning contexts.
